Halling Tram Chassis

The following photos, supplied by Alan Kirkman, show the Halling 4 wheel chassis and bogie chassis using Halling bogies, Halling drive shafts or neoprene drive tubes and Halling motors which have been fitted under the Beamish trams by Alan who built or modified all of the bogie chassis.

They are all available in HO (16.5 mm), HOm (12 mm) and HOe (9 mm) gauges from the UK Halling supplier, John Whitehouse through his East Lancs Model Tramway Supplies shop. He can be contacted by email at sales.elmts@gmail.com or by text on 07840-707-653.

Halling Vario Chassis

The Vario wheelbase is adjustable from 23 mm by unclipping the base plate and moving one axle to give 26.7 mm and 30.4 mm if both axles are moved.

These are fitted under Leeds No.6, Newcastle No.114, Oporto No.196 and Sheffield No.264 with the wheelbase set to the maximum length of 30mm.

Halling KSW Chassis

The KSW has a 35mm wheelbase and is available in HO and HOm gauges. It is the lowest height chassis supplied by Halling. These are fitted under Sunderland No.16 and Lytham St Annes No.33.

Alan Kirkman HT2 Chassis

The HT2 is a short wheelbase bogie chassis built by Alan Kirkman using Halling bogies driven by a Halling motor through sharply curved silicone drive tubes. These were originally fitted under Blackpool No.31, Blackpool No.147 and Manchester No.765.

Alan Kirkman HTV Chassis

The HTV is a long variable wheelbase bogie chassis built by Alan Kirkman using Halling bogies driven by a Halling motor through straight silicone drive tubes. This is fitted under Blackpool No.233. Instructions for building can be found here.

HTV Chassis with Halling Drive Shafts

This Halling chassis was made for Grimsby & Immingham No.26 and has long Halling plastic drive shafts with universal joints driving Halling bogies.

Halling C Chassis

The Halling C chassis has a central motor, plastic drive shafts with universal joints driving Halling bogies. It is also available free running for trailer use. One with the ends cut off by the weights is fitted under Sunderland No.101.
